My one stipulation I gave to Brian about selling PFR to the public was that if the market ever starts to show any signs of saturation because of this product, we are going to pull it immediately, and never sell it again. I do intend to stick to my guns on that fact – If its not profitable, there is no reason to own it.

So I guess its time for me to get to the point of my ramblings…

When Brian first approached us about selling the product we took a small investment (what we consider small), and put an equal amount into each currency pair that PFR handles – In each account we put $10,000. Since that time, those accounts have been left untouched, with PFR still running the helm. As of 5/24/2010 the accounts were at a total of $393,972 (not counting the loose change in each account).

There you can see the results for yourself. All you have to do is scroll just under the first video, and the live trading accounts are all listed, there is a different one for each trading pair.

So whats that mean if you can’t invest 10,000 in each pair? Well many brokers will let you open an account with $500, some even with $50, but the point is, no matter if you put $10 in each currency pair to start with, or $100,000 in each currency pair to start with you will make money. What many people do is take a portion of that money as profit, and keep trading with the rest. Of course on the demo accounts, we just keep letting them run, eventually there will be a few million dollars in the demo accounts, and then tens of millions and from there you get the idea.

The overall point is, Brian, nor myself, are making money on you buying our product, that money goes to support the PFR upgrades as well as customer service.

So what I want you to do now, is think about where your life is without PFR – Do you have a steady income? Do you consider yourself financially stable? If you wanted to go on vacation to Bora Bora tomorrow, could you? Do you own a nice home? How about a nice car?

Now consider putting forth a little bit of money, use whatever number you feel comfortable with, but lets say your prepared to be without this money for a few months… Now, multiply that number by 1.9 – then do it again – then do it again, then do it again.

Write that number down, then multiply it 3 more times by 1.9 each time. What was your initial investment? Mine was $400, after 7 months of trading without pulling any profit, I came up with $35,754.87 – So I guess the question is, can you live without a few hundred bucks for a few months? What if you only pulled out 40% of your projected earnings, and let the rest multiply?

Now of course I haven’t tested out this new Forex robot yet. However it does look promising. Reading through the sales page, I would assume it is using a Martingale system as part of its trading strategy.

One famous or perhaps infamous Forex robot from 2009 was Forex Maestro and although it got a lot of bad reviews, in my own forward tests on a Alpari UK demo account, it is actually outperforming many other well respected robots, some of which sold for 40 times what Forex Maestro sold for.

Forex Maestro has been off the market for almost a year now. Possibly it biggest failing was the very poor installation instructions. You really had to know what you were doing to get it setup and configured correctly. As a consequence, I believe many people simply weren’t able to get it trading the way it was designed to, including many Forex robot testers.

Pro Forex Robot on the other hand, should by contrast be very easy to setup and configure correctly. I’ll be adding ProForexRobot to my portfolio of Forex Robots currently being forward tested on demo accounts.

Check back again in a few days to find out if Pro Forex Robot has the promise to be a good performer, even a diamond in the rough.. or if it is just a complete disaster.

This is not the first hybrid Forex Robot to be released. Something similar was attempted with the Forex Bling suite of Forex Robots. However this does seem to be truly groundbreaking work from the FRWC. Whether or not this is the perfect hybrid, it is too early to say. It is good to see more and more Forex robot creators publishing live results rather than a set of back tests or screen shots. It was FapTurbo at the end of last year who broke new ground with their live results published directly on their sales page. This is said to be the next level in Artificial Intelligence for Forex trading and can take any average trader and turn them into a top gun.

Profitable forex trading not only requires finding a good trading system, manual or automated but also a good broker or at least a way to trade on a level playing field. Forex Maestro by design is unlikely to perform well over the long run, as it uses a variation of the Martingale strategy. This is really the exact opposite of what would be considered “good money management rules” for trading Forex and I’m sure it will make Bill Poulos shudder.

When a position is opened, the prudent strategy is to set your stop loss to at a position where you don’t expect the market to go, while at the same time keeping the maximum potential loss to a minimum. If the market moves against you, your position is exited with a known minimal loss. The logic being, the premise of the trade was wrong and there is no reason for you to remain in the trade. Take the small loss and look for another opportunity.

With the Martingale strategy, rather than exit the position, you take out a new position at the current price, lowering your average percentage loss. If the price moves in your favor, you can now exit with a profit overall. If the price continues to move against you, another position is opened to again reduce the average percentage loss. Most of the time this works but every now and then this is going to end in disaster.

Clearly this is not a sound trading strategy for success in the long run. However not everyone is looking for long run solutions. If you are looking for a way to quickly grow an account balance or are just trading Forex for fun and are using money you can afford to lose. Then Maestro could fit the bill.

Out of all the robots currently being forward tested, Maestro has put in the biggest gains over the past 2 months. How long will this winning run last? It is impossible to say but it has almost doubled the initial starting balance on this demo account in less than 2 months.

Maestro goes against all sound money management rules and no one should even dream of trading live money with this robot over the long term, because it is eventually going to lose big. Perhaps even wipe out the account balance.

However one approach to a robot such as Maestro, is to apply good money management rules to the account balance itself. The strategy would be, let it trade until the initial balance has been doubled then withdraw the initial deposit and leave it to trade with what is essentially free money. Your account balance is the stop loss. In every trade, you are potentially risking the entire account balance. So the account balance itself is your level of risk exposure.

This should only be done with recreational money, money you can afford to lose as Murphy’s law will probably apply. That being, the moment real money is deposited, the robot loses.

And don’t trade Forex Maestro with their recommended broker. Last time I checked, I couldn’t even determine in which country the broker was located. A scam? I hope not.

Update: It seems that Maestro may no longer be available. However here is another Forex Robot that makes no secret of the fact that it is based on the Martingale theory.

They suggest having only one broker to choose from is a good thing. While Dukascopy may offer excellent spreads, you need at least $10K US to open a live trading account. If you are going to risk 10K, then you better make sure you know what it is you are getting into.

I know I promised this more than a week ago. However writing software can sometimes be a bit of a quagmire. Sometimes a seemingly simple feature turns out to be hard to implement and sometimes during the coding and testing phase you realize there is an even better solution, a solution that often involves throwing out most of the code you’ve just written.

It had been my intention to initially publish a very simple set of live result tables before going to the next step and outputting full live result charts. However after messing around with implementing charting output, it became pretty obvious this was the only way to go. So once finished, you’ll be able to see live result charts for all the robots being tested as well as the MT4 result tables that these charts are generated from.

Is this the end of Forex Robot reviews.? Probably not but with so many Forex EAs for sale online, this is likely to be the quickest way to identify the quality robots from the junk bots and scam bots.

What I am referring to is the chart that is produced in the detailed Metatrader reports. Just glancing at these charts can be quite misleading as the vertical axis is not a constant metric between one graph and the next. So for example if the balance values being displayed began at $5000 and ended at a high of $5050 then we’d have a line that began at the bottom left of the chart and ended at the top right of the chart. If however the balance values ended at a high of $7050, then we’d also have a line the went from the bottom left of the chart and ended at the top right of the chart. In other words both charts would look extremely similar. When if fact the second result is 40% better than the first.

The clearest illustration of this can be seen by looking at results from three of the Expert Advisors that are currently running.

At face value the 3rd chart for Forex MegaDroid looks by far the most impressive. A nice smooth, steeply rising balance line. And certainly its win rate is very impressive, but unfortunately it achieves that cost of having a very small take profit target.

All is not as it would seem however. These charts are somewhat deceptive. If we were to take these charts and put them on a unified scale, the reality of which EA is performing the best is much clearer.

To try and illustrate the point I’ve point together a rather crude normalized chart showing the relative account balances along with Gomega Xray’s equity balance. The reason it is important to show Xray’s equity balance is because Xray trades on a long term strategy across multiple currencies and at any one moment may have as many as 5 or 6 trades open.

This balance scale on this chart starts at zero, so as to give and even more realistic idea of relative performance. The Megadroid and Conqueror charts have been shifted right to account for a slightly later starting date and the horizontal axis has been stretched so they all end points line up. The Megadroid and Conqueror charts also had to be significantly squashed vertically to match them accurately onto the Gomega chart.

Although Gomega Xray began with a few days lead over Conqueror and MegaDroid, it has outperformed the other EAs by a very large margin.

The results for GridBot were provided by my colleague, as so far my installation of Grdibot has not yet opened any trades. This may be due to some incompatibility issue with the FXDD version of MT4 and the workings of GridBot.

Forex Gridbot has been trading for less than 2 weeks and Gomega GBPJPY less than 1 week, so there is not a lot that can be read into these results so far. What is interesting here is that both Gridbot and Gomega GBPJPY trade on the Pound Yen (Gridbot also trades the USD JPY). It is going to very interesting to compare the performance of these two Expert Advisors over the coming weeks. Although I have a pretty good idea on which one is going to come out on top

A year ago I was the biggest skeptic of Forex trading and especially automated trading systems. I had to change my tune however when a friend of mine quit his day job after a year of manual trading.
