It is good to see more and more Forex robot creators publishing live results rather than a set of back tests or screen shots. It was FapTurbo at the end of last year who broke new ground with their live results published directly on their sales page. In fact much of Fap Turbo’s claim to fame was that they were the first robot publishers to do so. Raising the bar for all Forex robots.

While it is great to have forex EA creators publish their own live results it still not so easy to compare one set of results to another. Which is why I am returning to my project to compare all the top forex robots in both live and back tests. I’d say there is a good reason Forex Impact won’t be re-opening Correlation Code this time. That’s most likely because the Quad Charting software and strategies are almost ready for prime time. Perrie and Grace claim their FX robot trades with a 95.82% accuracy in any market condition. Forex Maestro by design is unlikely to perform well over the long run, as it uses a variation of the Martingale strategy. This is really the exact opposite of what would be considered “good money management rules” for trading Forex and I’m sure it will make Bill Poulos shudder.

When a position is opened, the prudent strategy is to set your stop loss to at a position where you don’t expect the market to go, while at the same time keeping the maximum potential loss to a minimum. If the market moves against you, your position is exited with a known minimal loss. The logic being, the premise of the trade was wrong and there is no reason for you to remain in the trade. Take the small loss and look for another opportunity.

With the Martingale strategy, rather than exit the position, you take out a new position at the current price, lowering your average percentage loss. If the price moves in your favor, you can now exit with a profit overall. If the price continues to move against you, another position is opened to again reduce the average percentage loss. Most of the time this works but every now and then this is going to end in disaster.

Clearly this is not a sound trading strategy for success in the long run. However not everyone is looking for long run solutions. If you are looking for a way to quickly grow an account balance or are just trading Forex for fun and are using money you can afford to lose. Then Maestro could fit the bill.

Out of all the robots currently being forward tested, Maestro has put in the biggest gains over the past 2 months. How long will this winning run last? It is impossible to say but it has almost doubled the initial starting balance on this demo account in less than 2 months.

Here are the live results from Maestro. Starting with $5000 on May 25th. It’s balance is currently sitting at $9290 in less than 2 months.

Maestro goes against all sound money management rules and no one should even dream of trading live money with this robot over the long term, because it is eventually going to lose big. Perhaps even wipe out the account balance.

However one approach to a robot such as Maestro, is to apply good money management rules to the account balance itself. The strategy would be, let it trade until the initial balance has been doubled then withdraw the initial deposit and leave it to trade with what is essentially free money. Your account balance is the stop loss. In every trade, you are potentially risking the entire account balance. So the account balance itself is your level of risk exposure.

This should only be done with recreational money, money you can afford to lose as Murphy’s law will probably apply. That being, the moment real money is deposited, the robot loses.

And don’t trade Forex Maestro with their recommended broker. Last time I checked, I couldn’t even determine in which country the broker was located. A scam? I hope not.

As always, stick with a broker you know and trust.

Update: It seems that Maestro may no longer be available. However here is another Forex Robot that makes no secret of the fact that it is based on the Martingale theory.

Metatrader is packed with powerful features and plugins, many designed for automated Forex trading EAs, forward testing, back testing, optimizing, analyzing.

They suggest having only one broker to choose from is a good thing. While Dukascopy may offer excellent spreads, you need at least $10K US to open a live trading account. If you are going to risk 10K, then you better make sure you know what it is you are getting into.

However I’m not here to just show you the good results, there are some bad ones and downright ugly ones too. Seems Gridbot just blew out my demo account and shut itself down. Well at least it shut itself down before wiping out completely. It will take a little time to figure out what went wrong here and I’ll fire an email off to support just to make sure everything was setup correctly.

Although it is not entirely obvious from the Metatrader result page, actual trades began on June 15 but most of the account loss occurred in less than 3 days. When I have my live trade results software up and running, this will be much more transparent but for the moment, we’ll have to settle for the Metatrader detailed report graph.

What I am referring to is the chart that is produced in the detailed Metatrader reports. Just glancing at these charts can be quite misleading as the vertical axis is not a constant metric between one graph and the next. So for example if the balance values being displayed began at $5000 and ended at a high of $5050 then we’d have a line that began at the bottom left of the chart and ended at the top right of the chart. If however the balance values ended at a high of $7050, then we’d also have a line the went from the bottom left of the chart and ended at the top right of the chart. In other words both charts would look extremely similar. When if fact the second result is 40% better than the first.

The clearest illustration of this can be seen by looking at results from three of the Expert Advisors that are currently running.

At face value the 3rd chart for Forex MegaDroid looks by far the most impressive. A nice smooth, steeply rising balance line. And certainly its win rate is very impressive, but unfortunately it achieves that cost of having a very small take profit target.

All is not as it would seem however. These charts are somewhat deceptive. If we were to take these charts and put them on a unified scale, the reality of which EA is performing the best is much clearer.

To try and illustrate the point I’ve point together a rather crude normalized chart showing the relative account balances along with Gomega Xray’s equity balance. The reason it is important to show Xray’s equity balance is because Xray trades on a long term strategy across multiple currencies and at any one moment may have as many as 5 or 6 trades open.

This balance scale on this chart starts at zero, so as to give and even more realistic idea of relative performance. The Megadroid and Conqueror charts have been shifted right to account for a slightly later starting date and the horizontal axis has been stretched so they all end points line up. The Megadroid and Conqueror charts also had to be significantly squashed vertically to match them accurately onto the Gomega chart.

Although Gomega Xray began with a few days lead over Conqueror and MegaDroid, it has outperformed the other EAs by a very large margin.

The results for GridBot were provided by my colleague, as so far my installation of Grdibot has not yet opened any trades. This may be due to some incompatibility issue with the FXDD version of MT4 and the workings of GridBot.

Forex Gridbot has been trading for less than 2 weeks and Gomega GBPJPY less than 1 week, so there is not a lot that can be read into these results so far. What is interesting here is that both Gridbot and Gomega GBPJPY trade on the Pound Yen (Gridbot also trades the USD JPY). It is going to very interesting to compare the performance of these two Expert Advisors over the coming weeks. Although I have a pretty good idea on which one is going to come out on top

A year ago I was the biggest skeptic of Forex trading and especially automated trading systems. I had to change my tune however when a friend of mine quit his day job after a year of manual trading. He is one of the 5% who can make money trading Forex manually. 2. Make sure the General tab is selected.
3. Click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet Files section and click OK.
4. If you want the browser to automatically clear the cache whenever you close it, click the Advanced tab. Click to check the box next to the “Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed” option (in the section labeled “Security”). Click OK. This will delete everything except cookies.

Firefox 1.5 / 2.0 / 3.0

1. Below is the full method, although it is possible to simply go to Tools, and select Clear Private Data, or to just press Ctrl+Shift+Delete. Please note that these options clear what you have set the browser to clear in Tools > Options… > Privacy, which can mean the cache, although it may also include passwords, and search and browsing history, so be careful.
2. Go to Tools and select Options….
3. Go to the Privacy tab, and click Settings… (in the blue box in the image).
4. Select what you would like to have cleared.
5. Return to the Options menu. If you want your cache cleared automatically, every time you close the browser, click the appropriate checkbox (shown in red in an earlier image).
6. Press “Clear Now” under the Settings button

So how did Gomega GBPJPY perform in the back test? I ran the test across the same time period that we have live results for. Which is from October 5th 2008 through to April 10 2009. Starting with an account size of $5000, the Gomega GBPJPY back test finished with a closing balance of $8174 or a gain of 63%. This compares well to the live results from Gomega clients. Andreas Maeder’s account began live trading on September 2nd 2008 with a starting balance $10,000. And by April 6, 2009, the balance stood at $19,909.24. A gain of 99% for the 7 months. You can see Andreas, from Switzerland, talk about his experience trading with Gomega and the settings he is using. Sean Hummel ran a $5000 demo account over the same period which reached at closing balance of $14,608.67 by April 3rd, that’s a gain of 192%. I’ve been running a forward test on the new Gomega GBPJPY Autotrader. It is setup on a demo account at FXDD with a starting balance of $5000. The configuration is exactly as it was preset by Quantum Research. So far it has entered 2 trades, both of which were buy orders. As trades progress, Gomega GBPJPY intelligently modifies the stop loss, so to lock in the profit on the trade if the market retraces before reaching the profit target.

Gomega GBPJPY trades on the 4 hour time frame and only opens new positions during an 8 hour window every day. This covers the second half of the Asian session through to the first half of the London session. This may appear very restrictive but this has proven to be the most profitable time frame and period for Autotrader to trade the Pound against the Yen.

On the first trade, Gomega GBPJPY adjusted the trailing stop as the price rose. Then when the market retraced, it exited the trade at no profit and no loss.

The second trade followed a similar pattern however the market moved somewhat higher before retracing. Again the trailing stop was triggered and Gomega GBPJPY exited with a small profit.

Gomega GPJPY trades the Pound Yen currency pair on the 4 hour time frame. It trades during an eight hour entry window that covers the second part of the Asian trading session and the first part of the London session.

Installation was a breeze, it couldn’t be easier. Simply run the installer, enter your license details and you’re away.

Again I’ve installed this on the Metatrader4 platform I downloaded from  Forex broker, FXDD. However you could run this with any up to date Metatrader4 and any broker of your choice.

The only parameters you need to setup are:
Profit Target: I left this at the default setting of 500 PIPs for my initial forward testing.
Percent of Equity to Risk: I’ve left this at the default setting of 1%.
Modify Initial Stop Loss: Again I left this at the default setting of “True”. This will allow Gomega GPJPY to intelligently modify the stop loss throughout the trades, so it can lock in profits.

All systems are go, and just waiting for the second half of the Asian session to begin and Gomega GPJPY will spring into action. I’ll be posting regular updates. Stay tuned.

Part of the reason for the string of losses in my opinion is Gomega Xray trades multiple currency pairs and one of the entry criteria is the cross currencies for each currency pair being traded. This is one of the factors that gives Gomega an edge when determining whether to enter a trade. However it is a two edged sword, if the market direction changes and goes against Gomega, Gomega will likely have several small losses in a row as the stop losses are triggered across several currencies. Of course the opposite is true when Gomega is on the right side of a market movement, the result being multiple big wins in a row.

This is exactly how last weeks trading had been. Gomega found itself on the wrong side of the market movement a couple of times as well as some positions being spiked out by major news events. Those news events no doubt had sent a cascade of stop losses rippling across the markets. Perhaps a great oppurtunity for a dedicated manual trader? However in spite of this, Gomega was still in the trade on several positions since the beginning of the week and earlier. And as the Euro continued to strengthen throughout the week, Gomega’s equity position continued to grow, even though its balance was down.

By the end of the week, Gomega had closed out several positions it had been holding and ended the week with a balance of $7296 and equity of $7478. That’s a gain of $2296 or 45% in less than 1 month.

While the week’s trading didn’t produce a nice smooth balance curve, the end result is still very impressive. If Metatrader were able to show an equity curve that included the equity balance, it would be easier to visualize how the trading situation had progressed.
